New Listing1915 Tennessee License Plate Not Porcelain First Issue Repaint 24602 CONSIGNMENT
SOLD $5,400.00 Sold: Oct 31, 2023 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
eBay The 1915 Tennessee #24602 offered here today is a white on dark blue embossed metal license plate in repainted condition. Measuring 5 7/8” tall x 15 wide, the 1915 Tennessee is the first issued license plate by the state. The state of Tennessee began registering automobiles in 1905 but did not provide state issued tags until 1915.The 1915 Tennessee was cited as an honorable mention in ALPCA’s October 2020 edition of PLATES Magazine “American Top 40 Rarest U.S. Passenger Plates” as #64 with 56 known examples. This rarity is attributed to the fact that 1915 plates were issued beginning in July of 1915. In an effort to avoid overcharging motorists that had already paid fees on their pre state plates, 1915 tags were only issued to new registrants during the six month period between July 1, 1915 and December 31, 1915. All motorists who had pre state plates on their vehicles were given a pass until January 1, 1916. 1915 Tennessee plates are all numbered between the mid 23,000’s and the low 27 000’s Condition Report:#24602 is in structurally sound repainted condition. As the entirety of the plate has been repainted fully there are few condition issues to note. The embossed border of the plate has been incorrectly repainted white. The plate lays flat and displays nicely. The paint job on the restoration is not overly glossy. However, it was gone over several times and results in a thicker front. The backside of the plate shows little evidence of any metal damage that existed prior to the restoration. I suspect that like most Tennessee 1915 examples, this plate was found rusty and without any paint. I can only assume that a previous owner opted for a repaint to make the plate more visually pleasing. The license plate features wear including scratching, paint loss, and rust resulting from period era use, aging, and storage. Please see the additional photo section to inspect the item of interest in detail. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I ship with care - typically on Saturdays. I ship well protected via fully insured priority mail. I happily combine shipping if you purchase multiple items. I can also deliver for free to any swap meet I am attending. Once paid for, you will receive the exact item in the displayed photographs. Due to the unique nature of each item that I sell, returns are not accepted.Per eBay requirements, this license plate is more than three years old and is expired. This license plate is being sold for collectible display purposes. I am always looking to add early license plates into my personal collection. I will buy individual items or entire collections.
